Army MWR contest provides daily dose of comedy

MWR and Picturehouse Films have a comedy contest through Feb. 8. Contestants can win one of 30 flip video cameras and a chance to bring world-class comedy to an Army installation of their choice.

MWR patrons 18 and older can log on to http://www.ArmyMWR.com daily through Feb. 8 to take part in the “Online Improv Wild West Comedy Tour,” by submitting a joke, quip or other humorous comment about the improvisational topic of the day.

Individuals may enter every day, but can only win one flip video camera. A grand prize winner will be drawn from all entries received. 

The grand prize winner may select any Army installation to receive $5,000 to host a comedy show. The grand prize winner and up to 30 guests will be VIPs at the event, get reserved seating and free food and non-alcoholic beverages, in addition to the camera.  The MWR activities director at the selected Army installation will designate the MWR venue for the show.

The promotion is a play on Vince Vaughn’s new movie, “Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights, Hollywood to the Heartland.”
In fall 2005, Vaughn hand-picked stand-up comedians from the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. They then traveled more than 6,000 miles across the country, performing 30 shows in 30 days. The tour, including performances; behind-the-scenes action; and interviews with Vince, the comedians and special guests; was captured on film. The movie is scheduled to be released in February.
