H1N1 shots available
In a presidential proclamation signed Jan. 9, President Barack Obama declared the week ending Saturday as National Influenza Week.
The national observance highlights the importance of continuing influenza vaccinations after the holiday season into January and beyond.

Before now, medical workers were primarily vaccinating people who were in the priority target groups identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Medical staff members are now encouraging everyone to get vaccinated. DeWitt has ample supply of the H1N1 vaccine from the state and Department of Defense, though the hospital is currently out of the seasonal flu vaccine.
Flu clinics available to active-duty personnel and beneficiaries of the DeWitt Health Care Network are Tuesday, and Jan. 21, 26 and 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Specker Field House.
All active-duty members can get the vaccine at one of the listed flu clinics, as well as all family members and retirees enrolled to DHCN.
“This week presents a window of opportunity for us to prevent a possible third wave of H1N1 flu in the United States,“ the president said in the proclamation. “I strongly encourage those who have not yet received the H1N1 flu vaccine to do so ... Together, we can all fight the H1N1 flu and help protect our families, friends, and neighbors.“
