Miscellaneous
Steak night Tuesdays
The Officers’ Club hosts Steak Night Tuesdays. All are welcome to enjoy the menu items, including New York strip, Delmonico, filet mignon and prime rib. There is also salmon for fish lovers. Dinners include a free glass of wine. Lobster tail can be added and steaks can be blackened.
Walk-ins are welcome but reservations can be made by calling 703-780-0930.
Summer reading program, WiFi
Van Noy Library’s Summer Reading Program, Read, White and Blue, encourages children and teens to read for pleasure during summer vacation. The program runs through Sept. 5.
Preschoolers through 6th graders read 15 books. Children not yet able to read can have books read to them. Children can read any book and record it on reading logs, available in the library.
Students in grades 7 through 12 read eight books. Teens can read any book and record it on their log.
Completed reading logs can be turned in at the library any time before Sept. 5 for a prize and entrance into an end-of-summer prize drawing.
The library also now has WiFi.

New gas line
Through July, workers are installing a new, 6-inch natural gas line for the New Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
The work site’s location is the intersection of Gunston Road and 5th Street to Hall Road behind the Central Utility Plant.
Work is expected to take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
Roads will remain open to traffic, but partial lanes may be affected. Flagmen and signs will be posted.
No parking lot entrances or streets will close for the project.
Boating safety
The Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 25-8 offers a boating safety class from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday to July 9, which meets the requirements established by Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. All regions fine boat operators who have no evidence of taking a boating safety class. Requirements differ by state.
The class meets at West Marine, 601 S. Patrick St., Alexandria, 22313. Students get a manual, a certificate, and class-completion card.
The cost is $40/student, $60 for a couple who shares the manual.

Deployment and family readiness
The Mobilization/Deployment and Family Readiness Program conducts the following monthly classes:
July 13, 10 a.m. to noon, Pre-Deployment Workshop: a discussion concerning preparing for deployment and learning about resources available for servicemembers, DoD civilians, and their family members, including before, during and after the deployment period.
July 15, 9 a.m. to noon, FRG Essentials: Basic FRG information for FRG leaders, volunteers and members, as well as Family Readiness Support Assistants, commanders and first sergeants.
July 20, 10 a.m. to noon, Reintegration Workshop: Preparing for the return of a loved one, or adjusting after the return, as a family; what to expect and resources to help, for Soldiers, DoD civilians, and family members.

Spirit of America tickets
The U.S. Army’s Spirit of America Show is Sept. 11 and 12 at the Patriot Center. Performances are free, but people who attend must have tickets, which are available at the Community Center.

New pavilions to rent
Outdoor Recreation has two new pavilions, the Eagle and the Osprey, for rent at Tompkins Basin on the Potomac River. The introductory fee is $25 each per day, with a $50 refundable cleaning deposit.
Each 20-by-30-feet pavilion has picnic tables, a barbecue grill and volleyball nets. Volleyballs and other recreational items are available for rent at the Outdoor Recreation Center, Bldg 778.

Blackberries and crab?
Outdoor Recreation has a trip to the Blackberry Bonanza & Wellness Festival July 26 at Great Country Farms in Bluemount, Va.
The $13 cost includes admission, wine-tasting and transportation. Kids 2 and younger are free.
ODR also has a trip to the Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast, Aug. 7 from 3 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets, $65, include transportation and all-you-can-eat blue crab and all-you-can-drink soda and beer.

Found items
Over the past several months, the Directorate of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement Lost and Found Property Custodian have collected several unclaimed bicycles and other items. Items are held for 90 days before they are turned over to the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office.
People who have lost any items and want to find out if they have been recovered by DES Police may contact Tim Brown, lost and found property custodian, 703-806-0146. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays and voice mail is available after normal duty hours. Some reasonable proof of ownership is required to claim any found property.

Eastern Orthodox
The next Eastern Orthodox Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Woodlawn Chapel at 9 a.m. July 15 on the occasion of the feast of St. Vladimir (Volodymyr) of Kyiv in what is now modern Ukraine. That saint is credited with the conversion of the people of Kyivan Rus’ in the late ninth century AD to Orthodox Christianity.

Vacation Bible School is Aug. 16 to 20 in the Religious Education Center. This year’s theme is Rome - Paul and the Underground Church.

Five Day Clubs - Five day clubs, also known as Backyard Bible Clubs, are scheduled in selected Fort Belvoir housing areas from July 20 to 24.

Fairfax Chapel is closed until further notice for renovations and repair. The 9:15 a.m. Hispanic and the 11:15 a.m. Masses will be in Barden Education Center Auditorium during renovations.

Registration for fall classes at Central Michigan University is open July 13 to 24, for classes that begin Aug. 21 at Barden. Classes are available at six locations in the D.C metro area including at Fort Belvoir.
CMU offers a master of science in administration degree.
CMU accepts applications year round, with new classes beginning every six weeks. Classes meet on alternating weekends or weekday evenings. Degree completion is available in 18 months.

Registration at Webster University is open for fall classes, which begin Aug. 15. The GRE/GMAT is not required for admissions.

Webster University offers five, nine-week terms each year, with some transferable credits.

Final days for resident survey
Tuesday is the deadline for Belvoir residents to participate in the annual Department of the Army Resident Survey, which was recently mailed to all residents of The Villages at Belvoir. Participation provides a more accurate picture of how well residents’ on-post housing needs are being met.
Information provided from the survey helps the Residential Communities Liaison Office and the private partner make decisions in providing the services and facilities important to families living on Fort
Belvoir.
Answers posted to the survey are strictly confidential. No personal data is tabulated and the survey will not identify the family or where they live.

CESL deadline
Wednesday is the registration deadline for the Army Management Staff College’s upcoming Continuing Education for Senior Leaders class. The class is Aug. 3 to 7 at Fort Belvoir.
The course is a resident and distributed learning course that brings senior civilian leaders together to discuss current and relevant issues facing the Army. It is designed for the GS-14 and 15 leader level. A quarter of the seats are allocated for senior Army uniformed staff.
The CESL encompasses seminars and interactive discussions and presentations.

Summer Splash at the O Club

SJA office relocating
Beginning Monday, the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, (including its legal assistance, claims, military justice and other sections) will be moving to its new location on 16th Street at 9910 Lowen Road, Bldg. 702, Fort Belvoir, VA 22079-5593. The phone numbers will remain the same.
Brunch for dads
Father’s Day Buffet at the Officers’ Club is Sunday. Seatings are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and reservations are required.

Resident survey
More participation is needed for the annual Department of the Army Resident Survey which ends June 30 and was recently mailed to all residents of The Villages at Belvoir. Participation by all residents is very important and provides a more accurate picture of how well their on-post housing needs are being met.
Information provided from the survey helps the Residential Communities Liaison Office and the private partner to make better decisions in providing the services and facilities important to families living on Fort Belvoir.

Festival fun
Outdoor Recreation can drive you to the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival Saturday at National Harbor with four- and six-hour tours that include tasting, festival admission and transportation. ODR also visits Leesburg’s Summer Brewfest June 27.

Family camping
Outdoor Recreation has a family campout from 8 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday. Families are invited to pitch their tents on the field next to the Outdoor Recreation building and sleep under the stars.
During the day, family members can fish, take archery, join a scavenger hunt with prizes, and hike along the Accotink Bay.
The cost is $5 per person, which includes a tent space, fishing clinic, archery lesson, a scavenger hunt, sporting equipment, and s’mores over an outdoor fire pit. An extra large charcoal grill is provided for community grilling and three fire pits are available for roasting marshmallows. Campers only need to bring their tent, sleeping bag, camping supplies, food and water.
People with none of their own camping equipment or who don’t know what they need can come to Outdoor Recreation for help. ODR is also accepting payment and reservations.

Arts and crafts contest
The deadline to enter projects into the 2009 Arts and Crafts Contest is June 30. Artists can compete for cash against the best artists and artisans in the Army with their best 2D and 3D artwork.

Boating safety
The Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 25-8 offers a boating safety class from 6 to 8 p.m. July 6 to 9, which meets the requirements established by Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. All regions fine boat operators who have no evidence of taking a boating safety class. Requirements differ by state.

Dog Park now open
Fort Belvoir Outdoor Recreation now has a full-time dog park available. The Dog Park is open from dawn to dusk seven days a week and is free of charge. The park is next to Outdoor Recreation Bldg. 778.
Rules and other information are listed on the park’s fence. A few general rules are: All dogs must have current rabies and all other vaccinations. Dogs must wear current state license tags, and must be leashed upon entering and exiting the park. Dogs must be older than 4 months to play in the dog park.
Dogs should not be left unattended and they must be in the owner’s view at all times. Owners are responsible for picking up pet waste. A trash can and dog bags are outside the park.

Over the past several months, the Directorate of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement Lost and Found Property Custodian have collected several unclaimed bicycles and other items. Items are held for 90 days before they are turned over to the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office.

Five-Day Clubs, or Backyard Bible Clubs, are scheduled in selected housing areas on Fort Belvoir from July 20 to 24. High School-age youth are needed to be missionaries to lead and teach the clubs. Missionaries are required to complete a week of training in Richmond, Va., in June. Also, sponsors are needed to sponsor the clubs in each housing area. Sponsors’ duties include hosting and distributing promotional material.

Military Career Transition Program’s Master of Science in Education summer classes at Old Dominion University begin Monday. The second summer session begins June 19. Non-degree applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes. Non-degree students become degree-seeking after beginning the program.
The Master of Science in Education is an initial licensure program that transfers to 44 states and DoD schools around the world. Licensure is offered in elementary, middle school and high school. Active/retired military, military spouses and qualified civilians are eligible for the program.
Personnel who transfer before completing the program locally can finish their program by taking online or video streamed courses.

Final talent auditions
Fort Belvoir’s MWR and BOSS program team up with Fort Myer for a joint forces salute to the “Year of the NCO,“ with a talent showcase Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. at Belvoir’s Wallace Theater.
The event will showcase talents of local National Capital Region military personnel, family members and DoD civilians. It includes a youth theater performance, an adult talent competition and a professional acrobatic performance by the Jabali African Acrobats.
The showcase includes a youth theater performance of “Beauty is a Beast.“ Final auditions for this show are Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fort Belvoir Youth Center, Bldg. 5850. Youth auditions are open to those in grades 6 to 12, family members of military and DoD civilians in the NCR.

Military Career Transition Program’s Master of Science in Education summer classes at Old Dominion University begin Monday. The second summer session begins June 19. Non-degree applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes. Non-degree students become degree-seeking after beginning the program.
The Master of Science in Education is an initial licensure program that transfers to 44 states and DoD schools around the world. Licensure is offered in elementary, middle school and high school. Active/retired military, military spouses and qualified civilians are eligible for the program.
Personnel who transfer before completing the program locally can finish their program by taking online or video streamed courses.

Boating safety
The Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 25-8 offers a boating safety class Saturday, which meets the requirements established by Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. All regions finer boat operators who have no evidence of taking a boating safety class. Requirements differ by state.

Five Day Clubs help needed
Five-Day Clubs, or Backyard Bible Clubs, are scheduled in selected housing areas on Fort Belvoir from July 20 to 24. High School-age youth are needed to be missionaries to lead and teach the clubs. Missionaries are required to complete a one-day training in Vienna, Va., in May; and a one-week training in Richmond, Va., in June. Also, sponsors are needed to sponsor the clubs in each housing area. Sponsors’ duties include hosting and distributing promotional material.

Marine Memorial Day
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Quantico National Cemetery has its annual Memorial Day Observance on Monday at 11 a.m. on the grounds at 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, Va. The Potomac Regional Veterans Council annually sponsors the ceremony. Marine Lt. Gen. George J. Flynn is the ceremony’s keynote speaker. The observance begins at 10:30 a.m., with a musical prelude by the Quantico Marine Corps Band, followed by a massing of veterans, youth and auxiliary color guards and wreath presentation.
Additionally, VA representatives will be available in the administration office before and after the observance to share information with the public about veterans’ benefits.
Unique to the Quantico National Cemetery observance is the Avenue of Honor, where more than 400 flags will be flown from the main entrance gate throughout the cemetery.

Five Day Clubs help needed
Five-Day Clubs, or Backyard Bible Clubs, are scheduled in selected housing areas on Fort Belvoir from July 20 to 24. High School-age youth are needed to be missionaries to lead and teach the clubs. Missionaries are required to complete a one-day training in Vienna, Va., in May; and a one-week training in Richmond, Va., in June. Also, sponsors are needed to sponsor the clubs in each housing area. Sponsors’ duties include hosting and distributing promotional material.

Military Career Transition Program’s Master of Science in Education summer classes at Old Dominion University begin Monday. The second summer session begins June 19. Non-degree applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes. Non-degree students become degree-seeking after beginning the program.
The Master of Science in Education is an initial licensure program that transfers to 44 states and DoD schools around the world. Licensure is offered in elementary, middle school and high school. Active/retired military, military spouses and qualified civilians are eligible for the program.
Personnel who transfer before completing the program locally can finish their program by taking online or video streamed courses.

Asian Pacific Islander Heritage
The Military Intelligence Readiness Command and 55th Sustainment Brigade present an outdoor luau, in observance of Asian Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. The event is Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mosby Reserve Center. It includes live educational dances, singing, cultural food samples, displays and giveaways.
Saturday volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to help Fort Belvoir Elementary School students and the Woodlawn United Methodist Church Youth Group with a cemetery clean-up Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The cemetery is next to Woodlawn Chapel.
The youth took on the beautification project to demonstrate good citizenship and respect for fallen military members and prepare the location for Memorial Day.
Interested volunteers are asked to show up at 8 a.m. at the cemetery, wear appropriate clothing, bring rakes, clippers, movers, hedgers etc.

AAFES event, car show
AAFES’ Safety Day & Car Show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Belvoir’s Main Store Parking Lot.
The event includes a bike and car show with trophies and prizes with free admission and vehicle registration. Trophies and prizes will be awarded for 12 categories and best in show. Categories include: cars before 1960; after 1960; Volkswagens; touring and sport trucks and motorcycles; best interior; engine and paint; and longest distance driven.
Activities sponsored by AAFES Safety Council and Loss Prevention include Sparky the Fire Dog; games and prizes; a fire truck and military police; a moon bounce; face-painting; Game Stop, where participants can show their skills for prizes on X-Box, Guitar Hero, Wii: Super Mario Bros, PS3 Street Fighters; and D.J. L.E.O.
Games include putt-putt golf, balloon toss, basketball, and a bike rodeo for kids ages 5 to 10 who bring their bikes.
For the event, the food court will have shish kabob, rotisserie chicken, hot dogs and half smoke sausage.

On the water
Want to learn how to sail in a social and fun environment? Outdoor Recreation has learn-to-sail with a with a group instructor in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Sail from 5:30 p.m. until sunset. The next event is Friday, from 3 to 10 p.m.
No sailing experience is necessary and each boat has one instructor onboard. People can participate and sail as much, or as little, as they want.
Boats can accommodate up to five guests and an instructor.

Partial closure of 9th Street
One lane of 9th Street will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through May 29 to allow Dominion Virginia Power crews to install an electrical direct bank system, according to the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security. Road signs and flagmen will warn motorists when work is occurring.

The job fair features more than 25 employers throughout the National Capital Region; one-on-one job search and résumé-review consultations; sessions on Preparing for Federal Employment, Career Strategies in an Economic Downturn and Maximizing New GI Bill Education Benefits & Career Advancement Accounts.
Participants should come dressed to meet employers and attend job search classes on federal employment, GI Bill/career advancement accounts for spouses, and career strategies in an economic downturn. The event also offers a free resumé review.

Doggie Days photo contest
Outdoor Recreation has a special day planned for you and your best four-legged friend to show off. Fort Belvoir’s Doggie Days, May 9, is a day of fun and games for pooches and the whole family.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pullen Field and includes food (for humans and canines), contests, a dog therapist, a dog whisperer, Children’s Corner, agility courses and more.
Owners can submit their favorite pet’s cutest, funniest, best overall shot for a photo contest that is part of the event. The contest is open to all pets, not just pets.

ODU
The Military Career Transition Program’s Master of Science in Education summer classes at Old Dominion University begin May 11. The second summer session begins June 19. Non-degree applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes. Non-degree students become degree-seeking after beginning the program.
The Master of Science in Education is an initial licensure program that transfers to 44 states and DoD schools around the world. Licensure is offered in elementary, middle school and high school. Active/retired military, military spouses and qualified civilians are eligible for the program. The ODU program adviser can evaluate transcripts to determine what subjects the student could qualify to teach.
Personnel who transfer before completing the program locally can finish their program by taking online or video streamed courses.

CMU Summer I classes begin May 15, and Summer II classes begin July 7. Classes are available at six locations in the D.C metro area, including Belvoir.
CMU accepts applications year round. Classes are conducted on alternating weekends or weekday evenings. New classes begin every six weeks. Degree completion is available in 18 months or less.

Child car seats

U.S. Army Soldier Show starts
The theme of this year’s U.S. Army Soldier Show is Lights! Camera! Action!
The event is scheduled to open Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Wallace Theater, followed by a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
There is also a 7:30 p.m. show Saturday with space available, limited seating.
Audience members will feel like they are in a live television studio throughout the show.
The Belvoir shows start a 6½-month tour with more than 100 performances on 46 installations, including in Hawaii, Korea and Washington, D.C.‘s Warner Theatre.
Dance, rap, English R&B, visuals, patriotic tunes, movement, love of country and a roller-skater are all part of the 90-minute theatrical concert production.
Military spouse job fair express
The USO of Metropolitan Washington, along with Joint Employment Transition Services, hosts a Military Spouse Job Fair May 2 at Fort Belvoir. The job fair features more than 25 employers throughout the National Capital Region; one-on-one job search and résumé-review consultations; sessions on Preparing for Federal Employment, Career Strategies in an Economic Downturn and Maximizing New GI Bill Education Benefits & Career Advancement Accounts.
Participants can register for morning or afternoon sessions, with gift bags going to the first 100 attendees at each session. The morning session is from 8 to 11:30 a.m., followed by the afternoon session, 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

New e-mail subscription
The Fort Belvoir Public Affairs Office has launched a new Belvoir E-Mail List Service, which enables people to automatically get e-mails with news and information about the installation.
Subscriptions are available from listserv .belvoir.army.mil/.
Some subscribers use work and home e-mail accounts to get late-breaking information that might be sent after hours, such as announcements relating to weather and other contingencies.
The listserv is an “announcement only” service. Subscribers will not be able to post messages. Content is restricted to command information for and about Belvoir. The listserv will replace a number of separate e-mail distribution lists now used by the PAO to put out information. The PAO will stop using those distribution lists as of midnight, May 17.
People who get News & Information notes via other distribution lists, will want to subscribe to the ListServ to continue getting the notes.

Fort Belvoir’s Civilian Personnel Advisory Center and Vicore, Inc. present a course, Constructive Conflict Resolution, May 12 and 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Bldg. 320.
The ability to cope successfully with conflict is among the most important interpersonal skills.
The workshop is designed to help participants develop a wide range of approaches to resolving conflict. Participants will determine their usual style for handling conflict, which is tied to many factors: family culture, personality, experience, gender and job requirements. Through exercises, lectures, group discussion and exercises, videos and case studies and role-playing, participants will learn many methods of resolving conflict.
The course costs $235 per participant.

Help a veteran
The Honor Flight Network is looking for volunteers to escort World War II veterans from Nebraska as they tour the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., April 23 and 24. Operation Airlift will execute two flights to transport World War II veterans from Nebraska to D.C., and the program needs 30 volunteers each day to serve as escorts for the veterans as they tour the memorial.
The Honor Flight program recognizes that time is of the essence in providing this service to World War II veterans, as the nation loses these heroes at a rate of 1,000 per day.
Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for their sacrifices. The program transports the nation’s heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials.

Earth Day events
Wednesday is Earth Day.
The Environmental and Natural Resources Division of the Fort Belvoir Directorate of Public Works, along with FMWR, jointly host an Earth Day event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Tompkins Basin area at Castle Park.
There will be a raptor bird show from 10 to 11 a.m. and a variety of educational opportunities throughout the day. Some food will be provided.
An Earth Day after-school environmental workshop, hosted by Pinnacle, is at Fairfax Village Neighborhood Center from 4 to 7 p.m. People can come and learn more about local species of plants and wildlife or take a tour of the eco-friendly building and butterfly garden. In celebration of 2009 National Medical Laboratory Professional’s Week, DeWitt Army Community Hospital’s Department of Pathology and The Armed Forces Blood Program have a blood drive at DeWitt April 24 from 8 a.m. to noon in the main conference room.
The goal for the drive is 80 units.

Partial closure of 9th Street
One lane of 9th Street will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through May 29 to allow Dominion Virginia Power crews to install an electrical direct bank system, according to the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security. Road signs and flagmen will warn motorists when work is occurring.
Day-tripping
MWR has trips to Atlantic City, N.J., April 25 and May 30.
The trips, open to all ages, depart the Community Center at 8 a.m. and return between 10:30 and 11 p.m. The cost is $45 per person, with an $18 to $25 rebate. Sign up at the center, Bldg. 1200, Taylor Road.

Sailing socials
Want to learn how to sail in a social and fun environment? Outdoor Recreation has learn-to-sail with a with a group instructor in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Sail from 5:30 p.m. until sunset.
No sailing experience is necessary and each boat has one instructor onboard. People can participate and sail as much, or as little, as they want.
Boats can accommodate up to five guests and an instructor.
The cost of $42 per person includes sailing until sunset, onboard instruction and transportation. Upcoming dates are Friday and May 15, from 3 to 10 p.m.

Bunco!
Anyone 18 and older is welcome to join the fun of the Army MWR promotion, “It’s Bunco Time.“
The dice game is easy to learn and play and beginners are welcome. Prizes include gift cards and prizes.

Games begin at 5 p.m. at the Community Center and food and drinks will be available to buy.

Logistics workshop, conference
AMC’s Logistics Support Activity and the Council of Logistics Engineering Professionals have a 2009 Life Cycle Logistics Tools Workshop and User’s Group Conference and Seminar, May 12 to 14.
The workshop, at the Holiday Inn, downtown Huntsville, Ala., is expected to draw more than 200 logistics professionals.

The Mobilization/ Deployment and Family Readiness Program holds monthly classes as follows:
First Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Family Readiness Group Roundtable for all FRG leaders, unit commanders and first sergeants and FRG volunteers.
Second Monday, 10 a.m. to noon, Pre-Deployment Class, preparing for upcoming deployments and learning resources for Soldiers, DoD civilians and family members.
Third Monday, 10 a.m. to noon, Reintegration Workshop, preparing for return or adjusting as a family after the return, what to expect and resources to help, for Soldiers, DoD civilians and family members.

Motorcycle safety courses
A motorcycle safety course is May 1 and 2 in the Pentagon North Parking Lot.

Belvoir’s Protestant Women of the Chapel host the PWOC Northeast Region Spring Rally, “Connecting the Corridor,“ Saturday at Woodlawn Chapel. The event is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Registration is $15, which includes meals. Women should bring their Bibles and wear comfortable clothes.

Orthodox Divine Liturgy
An Orthodox Divine Liturgy, celebrating St. James the Apostle, Son of Zebedee, is at 9 a.m. April 30 in Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Woodlawn Chapel, celebrated by Chaplain Col. Alexander F.C.Webster, an Orthodox priest.

Jewish
Fort Belvoir Jewish Congregation has a community-wide Yom HaShoah program Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Temple Rodef Shalom. A program on Belvoir is April 24.
The congregation and Master Sgt. Ernest Murray of the Equal Opportunity Office are working on a program commemorating the Holocaust.
Saturday Service is at 9:30 a.m. April 25, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Children’s Service, in Belvoir Chapel.
A Jewish Welfare Board Program is April 28. The Jewish Welfare Board, the Jewish Chaplains Endorser, will have a program at the Religious Education Center.

Fairfax Chapel closed
Fairfax Chapel is closed until further notice for renovations and repair. The 9:15 Hispanic and the 11:15 Masses will temporarily be celebrated in Barden Education Center Auditorium.
Education
Old Dominion University
The Military Career Transition Program’s Master of Science in Education summer classes begin May 11. The second summer session begins June 19. Non-degree
applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes. Non-degree students become degree-seeking after beginning the program.
The Master of Science in Education is an initial licensure program that transfers to 44 states and DoD schools around the world. Licensure is offered in elementary, middle school and high school. Active/retired military, military spouses and qualified civilians are eligible for the program. The ODU program adviser can evaluate transcripts to determine what subjects the student could qualify to teach.
Personnel who transfer before completing the program locally can finish their program by taking online or video streamed courses.

Spouses’ careers date change

The DoD is implementing the Military Spouse Career Advancement Account Program beginning in May to provide resources and assistance to spouses of active-duty servicemembers, Guard and Reserve with a spouse on orders for a year. This centralized, virtual program, accessed through Military OneSource, will provide counseling and funding up to $6,000 to help spouses get licenses, certificates or education opportunities leading to employment.
Interested spouses can call the Military OneSource Center, 1-800-342-9647, and speak with a career and education consultant. The consultant will help the spouse choose a career goal and enter a career plan into an online system, “My Career Advancement Account.“
Upon approval of the spouse’s career plan for education, training, certification or licensure, DoD will provide direct payment to the payee (school, institution, or program) through the designated government portal. The spouse will report back to Military OneSource upon completion of the plan and receipt of employment.
