Peter, Paul and Yarrow
Singer-songwriter and author Peter Yarrow tours Washington, D.C., Friday and Saturday. Yarrow, part of the iconic ‘60s folk music trio, Peter, Paul & Mary, became a best-selling children’s author with the success of his book-and-CD, “Puff, the Magic Dragon.” The book became a Publishers Weekly #1 bestseller for 20 consecutive weeks. Yarrow shares an illustrated version of his song, “Day is Done,” a celebration of the bond between a parent and child.

Virginia Archaeology Month
Throughout October, the Alexandria Archaeology Museum offers several free programs, in conjunction with Virginia Archaeology Month.
A History Scavenger Hunt for Kids is Saturday and Oct. 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Alexandria Archaeology Museum, 105 N. Union St., #327.
Kids can uncover archaeological clues and identify artifacts that bring Alexandria’s past to life. The event is a 2009 TimeTravelers passport patch program. Bring your TimeTravelers passport, download one at timetravelers.org or pick one up in the museum.

Civil War weapons
A Civil War-Era Weapons Demonstration is Sunday at Fort Washington Park.
Musket drills and marching starts at 11 a.m., followed by musket firings at noon and artillery firings at 1, 2 and 3 p.m., by park volunteers in Civil War-period uniforms.
The park is at 13551 Fort Washington Road, Fort Washington, Md., 20744.
Visitors will be able to learn how to handle a musket and march and participate in a non-firing artillery drill.
Admission to the park is $5 per vehicle and the event is for all ages.

World War II living history weekend
Travel back to the World War II era as Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre hosts Allied and Axis living historians for a weekend of living history.
The event, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free and will be held rain or shine.
Get an up-close look at what life was like for Soldiers and civilians throughout the war. Learn about their jobs, living quarters, equipment and life during the 1940s. A collection of original WWII artifacts will be on view in the One Room Schoolhouse and several demonstrations take place periodically throughout both days.
Brentsville served as the county seat of Prince William County from 1822-1893. The Historic Centre consists of five historic structures and a mile-long nature trail on 24 acres of parkland. The site, through tours and programs, interprets the diverse history of Brentsville and the county. Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre is at 12229 Bristow Rd., Bristow.
