Fort Belvoir’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation summer-ending event, Bounce Splash, was held Sunday at Pullen Field.

Soldiers from Fort Belvoir teamed up with members of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce Saturday by offering free, back-to-school physicals, as well as a little cheer, to area children heading to the classroom this fall.

The second annual Cardboard Regatta was held at Pool #1 Saturday. Entrants competed in the fastest time, best design and most spectacular sinking categories.

A variety of fun-filled summer programs at Child, Youth and School Services are available for Fort Belvoir youth this summer, including classes, recreation, arts and crafts, pick-up sports and scheduled special interest activities.

Residents of Woodlawn Village and all of The Villages at Belvoir enjoyed a block party June 26.

Big parts of Fort Belvoir’s summer are the pools that provide endless hours of fun and recreation. From silly floats to two-story slides in park-like settings, it’s an opportunity to be active outdoors and make new friends.

Fort Belvoir celebrated the 235th Birthday of the Army and the 233rd anniversary of Flag Day on Abbot Hall’s front lawn Monday with music, speeches, color guards from the ages, historical vehicles including a Sherman tank and a 12th Aviation Battalion Black Hawk flyover.

The American Army was on display Friday on Fort Belvoir’s Fremont Field as Soldiers from The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) performed the military pageant known as Twilight Tattoo.

Family, friends and colleagues crammed into Woodlawn Chapel Thursday to give thanks and say goodbye to Chaplain (Col.) Alexander Webster, who retired from the Army Reserve after 25 years of service to his country.
