Percentage of housing follows ADA guidlines

Five percent of the new homes being built at Fort Belvoir under Privatized Housing are Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant, according to Casey Nolan, project director for Clark Realty Capital, the development portion of privatized housing at Fort Belvoir.

“In the planning stages of the project, the Army and [Fort Belvoir Residential Communities] agreed to a 5 percent target. Five percent of the homes are ADA-compatible and 1 percent of the homes are fully compliant,” Nolan said. “If there is demand for the ADA homes not converted [with grab bars, cabinets adjusted, etc], the project has the flexibility to make the appropriate adjustments to accommodate all of the 5 percent of homes set aside.”

All of the new ADA homes are single-story houses designed to blend in with the style of other new homes.

They are also available with floor plans ranging from three-bedroom homes to three bedrooms plus den and four bedrooms plus den, Nolan said.

In addition, the homes are interspersed throughout the new villages and are not specifically grouped together.
