Fort Belvoir welcomed military families from around the National Capital Region Saturday, as the USO of Metropolitan Washington hosted its bi-annual Deployed Family Fun Day at Castle Park.

Wounded Warriors from across the country headed to Colorado Springs, Colo. May 10 through 14 for the inaugural Warrior Games, a celebration that recognized the achievements of wounded servicemembers in nine different sports.

Tuesday was a night solely for Belvoir families. It was also a night to keep the wallets and purses at home.

Fort Belvoir’s own Earth Day was celebrated with a variety of events over this past week. Camping, hiking, clean-ups, canoe and kayak trips, a guided bird walk, raptor show, outdoor games and an open house at the Environmental Education Center acknowledged the 30th anniversary of Accotink Bay Refuge.

“Soldier Show 27.0” is the working concept of the 2010 U.S. Army Soldier Show, an “entertainment for the Soldier, by the Soldier” song-and-dance production. This year’s edition revolves around current social-media phenomena.
