Soldier Show comes home with final performance

Belvoir Eagle staff report

The 2006 U.S. Army Soldier Show will hold its final performance Saturday at 7 p.m. at Fort Belvoir’s Wallace Theater.

The show is a high-energy, 90-minute live musical review showcasing the talents of 17 active-duty Soldiers selected by audition from throughout the Army. They are amateur artists who have a passion for music, dance and performing. They come from infantry, transportation, military police, medical, intelligence, aviation, signal and other tactical units.

The show is assembled in six weeks under the direction of Victor Hurtado of the Fort Belvoir-based Army Entertain-ment Division, and then tours for 6 1/2 months. The performance this weekend marks their return to Fort Belvoir and their home stage at the Wallace Theater.

The show is titled, “Reveille: Answering the Call,” and focuses on the reasons Soldiers join the Army, Hurtado said in an interview earlier this year.

The show answers “loudly and clearly with reasons why Soldiers join the Army,” Hurtado said. “For our civilian audience, it may illustrate why people join. For our military audience, it might remind them of why – what their initial reasons were and why they continue to serve.”

Admission is free and dress for the show is casual. There will be limited reserved seating available specifically for families of deployed Soldiers along the right side of the auditorium, and for VIPs in the upper half of the center section. All other seating is open. For more information, please call (703) 805-1134.
