Surveyor Road closes Tuesday for stream restoration

Fort Belvoir Public Affairs

The eastbound ramp of Surveyor Road closes Tuesday to allow restoration of a stream adjacent to the road.
The eastbound ramp of Surveyor is a one-way road connecting Belvoir to Mount Vernon Road near Colyer Village. The westbound ramp connects Mount Vernon to Belvoir Road near the Community Center.
According to Edwin Garcia, chief of plans for the installation’s Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, the closure involves significant restoration of the stream from Belvoir Road.
To complete this work, construction crews will be crossing the eastbound ramp of Surveyor Road with excavators, tree clearing equipment and dump trucks. However, access between Belvoir and Mount Vernon Roads will not be totally cut off, Garcia said.
As an alternative, he suggests drivers who normally turn right on the first entrance to Surveyor Road continue down and turn on the next entrance road instead.
Safety measures warning drivers of the road closure include concrete barriers with flashers being placed 500 feet south of the eastbound ramp.
