The Logistics Civil Augmentation Program Support Unit on Fort Belvoir has a new leader.

Arrow, a 9-year-old German shepherd, served as an explosive detection and law enforcement canine on the installation for virtually his entire life until he was diagnosed with a severe form of cancer and put down on Jan. 14.

The following incidents were reported to the Fort Belvoir Provost Marshal Station during the week of Jan. 28 through Feb. 3.

Base Realignment and Closure and the impact of bringing an additional 22,000 personnel to Fort Belvoir by 2011 brought a crowd of more than 200 together for a public information meeting Jan. 24 at the Springfield Hilton. 

Installation Commander Col. Brian Lauritzen hosted two workforce town hall meetings Jan. 25 and Monday at Wood Theater to brief the garrison workforce on the status of several Fort Belvoir topics related to their jobs.

Known to most as the Engineer Proving Ground, Fort Belvoir’s North Area will be home to two major organizations coming to Belvoir as part of Base Realignment and Closure 2005. 

A U.S. military police brigade deployed in Baghdad is teaching Iraqi police about democratic principles such as tolerance in addition to law enforcement skills, the unit’s commander said.

The Senate confirmed Lt. Gen. David H. Petraeus for promotion to general and assignment as commander of Multinational Force Iraq. President Bush expressed gratitude to the Senate for acting quickly on the nomination.

U.S. military chaplains serving in Afghanistan want troops who have been extended to know support is there for them.
