Two-hundred children walk from Lewis Village to school every day during the school week, 25 buses transport children from the installation and countless parents pick up and drop off their children at Fort Belvoir Elementary School, but there is one major problem plaguing school officials.

Sarah Wilcox says her favorite part about being a military child, the part that most children dread, is the constant moving.

In an effort to bolster the growth of the Army by more than 34,000 Soldiers, Army officials are implementing a new bonus for recruits who sign up by the end of this fiscal year. 

The south end of Fort Belvoir will have a very different look next summer.  The current service station will close and a new one will be constructed to allow motorists better access when entering and exiting the installation.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the 260th Regiment Regional Training Institute was held in the parking lot of the Fort Belvoir U.S. Army Reserve Center Friday.  Maj. Gen. David F. Wherley, commanding general for the Joint Force Headquarters, District of Columbia, was the event’s guest speaker.

Sgt. Maj. Alice Dallman has been literally been the driving force of Fort Belvoir’s volunteer efforts with the SHARE organization for the past eight years.

Fourteen wounded U.S. Soldiers received Purple Heart Medals Friday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., before an audience of nearly 250 family and friends, fellow servicemembers and medical staff. 

Comedians Dave Attell and Scott Kennedy are keeping troops laughing during an eight-stop USO-sponsored comedy tour for servicemembers deployed to the Operation Iraqi Freedom theater of operations. 

Due to the recent growth in population of Fort Belvoir, Fort Belvoir Elementary School will only be accepting students who live on post for new enrollment.
