Fort Belvoir’s Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge was recently highlighted in Virginia Wildlife Magazine by Glenda Booth, a freelance writer who specializes in environmental issues and conservation.
Booth became interested in environmental issues at a young age, while growing up in Southwestern Virginia.

Belvoir opens playground for special-needs families

Fort Belvoir Installation Commander Col. John Strycula and Command Sgt. Maj. Gabriel Berhane held the honor Saturday morning of officially opening a new playground for use by special-needs children and Wounded Warriors.

Walker Gate temporarily closes for renovations

Fort Belvoir’s Walker Gate will be closed to all traffic from Monday until Aug. 30 for renovations to guard booths and overhead canopy. Road signs and detours will be in place to reroute traffic through Pence Gate until construction renovations are complete.

Up Front and BRAC Fact for Aug. 19

The Virginia Dept. of Transportation will hold a public meeting focused on the Fairfax County Parkway extension from Rolling Road to Fullerton Road on Aug. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at West Springfield High School at 6100 Rolling Road, Springfield, Va.
