Friday, February 26, 2010Belvoir cheerleaders celebrate successBy Danita Anderson Special to the Eagle The Fort Belvoir Competition Cheer Squad has had an incredible start to the 2009-2010 season. The girls achieved a first-place finish in a Spirit Unlimited Championship performance at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County competition Feb.13, the second competition of the year. The squad is the first of its kind for Belvoir in the history of the program, developed by Commissioner Danita Anderson and Deputy Keytrell Slack. Clearly, the girls’ hard work and dedication paid off. Belvoir was noted as having the ‘Best’ motivated and energized parents than any other team at the performance, which really played a role in the attitude and performance of the cheerleaders. The team is led by Rachael Wunderlich, a former Arizona Cardinals Cheerleader with exceptional leadership skills. Wunderlich came in to coach at the ninth hour, and with only a month to prepare for The next competition the cheerleaders will compete in will be co-hosted by the Washington Wizards and Spirit Unlimited at the Verizon Center Mar. 27. The cheerleaders will wrap up the season at the championships in April. Come out and show your support as our cheerleaders represent Fort Belvoir. Volunteers are always needed, and more information on tryouts for the squad is available at the Youth Sports Office.
