After a disastrous loss to district rival Woodbridge in game one of their twilight double-header, the Fort Belvoir Lady Eagles scored at will in game two and held on to defeat the Blenders 21-18 last week at the Prince William County Softball Complex. With the victory, Belvoir improved to 7-1 on the season.

Following a 13-1 blowout, the Lady Eagles scored ten runs over the first three innings of their next contest. Tinovia Unruh led off the game with a home run, while Loretta Neely and Michelle Murga each drove in three runs with the bases loaded. Neely would record two more RBIs later in the game.

“With only nine players in uniform, I’m proud of the way we handled things tonight. We usually have a much bigger roster than this,” head coach William Webb said after the game. “We didn’t let our first loss of the season carry over into the next game. That was important for us and I’m happy with the way we responded. This was a big win against a really tough
team.”

With Belvoir ahead 16-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Eagles seemed poised to walk away with an easy win. However, Woodbridge jolted them with nine runs in the inning, eight of which came with two outs.

Belvoir responded with five runs in their half of the sixth, and again found themselves needing just three outs to end the game. They would finally get those three outs, but not before giving up another seven runs in the inning.

“It got pretty interesting toward the end of the game, but we never gave up,” third baseman Charlie Hudson said. “We’re a team and we made sure we kept our composure out there. It’s going to take a lot more than that do break us down.”
