MEDDAC kept their hopes of an undefeated season alive Tuesday night with a 40-0 win over an undermanned 249th Prime Power team (2-5).
“This was a good game,” said MEDDAC coach Juan Chavez. “We scored, we did what we had to do.”
Brandon Sims led MEDDAC (8-0) with 22 points scored on two touchdowns and five two-point PATS.
Damon Barnes got the scoring started with a 10-yard run up the middle for a score and Sims’ kick put them up 8-0.
On 249th next possession, Ravan Hicks intercepted a pass on the 26-yard line and returned it for a touchdown.
MEDDAC scored on their next possession, an eight-play, 40-yard touchdown series.
On fourth-and-21 from their own 39, quarterback Javon Cook hung back in the pocket and slung a 23-yard pass to Chris Evans.
On first-and-goal from the 18, Cook pitched left to Sims, who advanced 13 yards down the sideline before stepping out of bounds.
Ron Cole got MEDDAC to the 1 on a 4-yard, Jerome Bettis-like run up the middle.
Cook took the keeper in for the score, and Sims again split the uprights to put MEDDAC up 24-0.
MEDDAC would reach the end zone twice in the second half, both scored by Sims.
The first came on a two-yard run, and the second on a 38-yard interception return, despite playing a man down.
After the game, Chavez reminded his team not to get hung up on the win.
“Come here Thursday ready to play,” he said. “Don’t focus on the past. Don’t focus on the future. Don’t look ahead to HRC or 1st IO or anyone else; we need to come out here and get it done each game.”
