Up Front

Road closure
Construction to install storm drainage piping will close Mount Vernon Road between the intersections of Hurley and Hunter roads Saturday to Aug. 23. Southbound traffic on Mount Vernon Road will detour to Surveyor Road and onto Belvoir Road; northbound traffic will be directed to Belvoir Road via Hurley Road.

Spouses group
Fort Belvoir’s Army Community Service has a new program just for spouses, The New Spouse Meet & Greet. The event is a chance for new spouses to the Fort Belvoir area to meet one another and get valuable information pertaining to spouses.

The next meeting is from 10 a.m. to noon today at Lewis Village Community Center.

CDC Parent meeting
The North Post Child Development Center has a Parent’s Advisory Committee meeting at 5 p.m. today. All parents with children enrolled in the NPCDC are welcome. The meeting is in the NPCDC’s training room.

Volunteers Needed

Belvoir’s Community Relations needs volunteers to help with free school physicals for children without health insurance. Volunteers can serve as interpreters, administrators or escorts, in partnership with the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce.

The event is from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at South County Government Center, 2nd floor 8350 Richmond Highway, Alexandria. Volunteers need to be there at 7 a.m., for orientation. Refreshments will be provided.

Mutual funds
Belvoir Federal Credit Union has a free financial seminar, “Mutual Funds: Are you on the right track?” at Barden Education Center, Room 104, Aug. 14 from noon to 1 p.m.
