Oktoberfest!
Fort Belvoir’s 13th annual Oktoberfest is today through Sunday on Parade Field 2, Fremont Field. Attractions include a carnival, Kinder Korner, fest tent with live entertainment, authentic German food and beverages, vendors and more.

Hispanic heritage dance
The Dewitt Army Community Hospital, Hispanic Heritage Committee sponsors a Hispanic heritage dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday at the Fort Belvoir Community Club. The event features the Panamanian and Paraguay Folkloric Group.

Tickets will also be available at the door for $12.

Free Market
The Protestant Women of the Chapel sponsor a Free Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Chapel, across from the commissary. People with donations are asked to drop them off Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. All donations should be clean and working.
The event is an ideal way to get rid of unwanted stuff before the holidays and help others out at the same time.

Chili recipe ready?
Army Community Service’s Family Advocacy Program kicks off Domestic Violence Prevention Month with a Chili Cook-Off Oct. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Barden

Education Center.
Each chili will be judged by a committee and will also be offered to spectators who want a taste. Each chili batch will be judged on aroma, appearance, consistency and taste.
Chili rules will be sent out to interested participants. The event is free.

Fall Bridal Show
MWR’s 2008 Fall Bridal Showcase is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Community Club. The cost is $5 per person. The event includes numerous bridal vendors showcasing their products. More information is available from Jadana Donely, 703-805-8471.

BRAC fact
Construction at the new Fort Belvoir Community Hospital site continues to move forward on schedule with more than 400 workers now on site.
The parking garage foundations have been placed and steel support beams have been erected several stories into the air on multiple, on-site foundations.
