Memorial events• Fort Belvoir hosts an observance in honor of Memorial Day at 11 a.m. today at Lieber Gate. The event includes remarks from Col. Jerry Blixt, installation commander; and comments from Fort Belvoir’s Garden Club president, Rosanne McGaha.
• Fort Belvoir Elementary School has an observance and hosts the youth choir from Woodlawn United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. tonight at the school. The event includes student presentations and is followed by a private reception.
• Mount Comfort Cemetery, 6600 S Kings Hwy, Alexandria, hosts an observance Monday. A welcome greeting starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by presentations of colors from Boy Scout Troop 993 at 10:45 a.m.; blessing of a Wall of Remembrance from Belvoir’s Chaplain’s Office; and the remembrance comments from Command Sgt. Maj. Gabriel Berhane, installation command sergeant major. The cemetery will also fly approximately 400 flags on its nearly 1.5-mile roadway.
Spring carnival
Fort Belvoir Elementary School has its Annual Spring Carnival Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the school. All Fort Belvoir families are invited. The event includes games, moon bounces, prizes and concessions.
Unlimited use wristbands will be available at the door: $10, $3 for children 3 and younger. The bands are needed to play at all 16 game booths, including moon bounces and a picture booth.
Concession tickets will be four for $1. Pizza, nachos, drinks, chips, candy, popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy will all be available.
Raffle tickets will cost $1.
Military spouse appreciation special
Outdoor Recreation celebrates military spouses with free transportation for them on a horseback riding trip Saturday. Information is available from Brianna Carter, 703-805-1226.
