Up Front for April 29

CDC groundbreaking
Fort Belvoir breaks ground for construction of its new Child Development Center Friday at 9 a.m. The center will be built just inside Pence Gate, across from the new Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.

When completed, the facility will house 338 children and 62 staff members and be operated by DFMWR.

Soldiers, employees and families are welcome to attend the groundbreaking which will include children and Belvoir, Army and community dignitaries.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
Military Spouse Appreciation Day is May 7.  Military Spouses are invited to attend a Military Spouse Appreciation Luncheon, hosted by the Armed Forces Foundation In conjunction with Fort Belvoir Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, at the Officers’ Club, noon to 2 p.m. Tickets are available at ACS only. For more information please call 703-805-4590. Seats are limited so sign up soon.

Sesame Street Show
Sesame Street is coming to Fort Belvoir on May 2. Shows are at Wallace Theater at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Doors open half an hour before each show. Distribution of tickets is ongoing until gone on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call 703-805-3714 for details. 

Comics on Duty
Please join us on May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) for either a daytime lunch show or an evening show of “Comics on Duty” at the Fort Belvoir Golf Club. Admission is free. A lunch buffet is served for lunch at normal lunch time prices and food and beverage are available for purchase at the evening show.

Honor Flight volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to greet World War II Vets coming in with Honor Flight at Dulles Airport.

Heroes’ Welcome Honor Flight is a non-profit Veterans organization affiliated with American Legion Auxiliary Unit 180 in Vienna, Va. We are dedicated to hosting World War II Veterans in Washington, D.C., as they visit the memorial built in their honor.

We need your help providing a Heroes’ Welcome to these well deserving Veterans. If you are interested, please contact heroeswelcomeiad @gmail.com.  Your name and birth date as it appears on your government issued ID will be required to attend the events.

BRAC Fact:
The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s NGA Campus East will require approximately 750 tractor trailer loads of furniture to furnish the offices and work spaces in the facility.
