Up front for Oct. 15
Hispanic heritage
The Fort Belvoir Installation Commander and the Equal Opportunity Office host an observance for Hispanic Heritage Month today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fort Belvoir Community Center.
This year’s theme is “Embracing The Fierce Urgency of Now!” Manny Monterrey, a film producer, author and community activist, is the keynote speaker.
The event also features dance performances by Los Quetzales Mexican Dance Ensemble. Food sampling will be available.

Domestic Violence Prevention
October is Domestic Violence Prevention Month. FMWR’s Army Community Service has a domestic violence discussion night today at 6 p.m. at its Belvoir Road location, Bldg. 200.
Using media and movie vignettes and guided discussion, people who attend can challenge their beliefs on domestic violence, learn how to identify and prevent abusive situations and how to help those who may be experiencing domestic violence.
Fall festival
All Fort Belvoir families are invited to Fort Belvoir Elementary School’s Fall Festival, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the school, which offers games, food concessions, moon bouncers and more.

• 3 and younger wristband, $3
• Tickets for concessions, four for $1
Raffle tickets will be $1.

Latin dance night
A Hispanic Heritage Month Latin Dance Night is Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Community Center. The event offers salsa, merengue and more! Tickets, $10 in advance and $15 at the door, include a DJ, cocktails and Hispanic food.
