Many studies say that speech is in correlation with right hemisphere of the brain. However, recent studies prove that the contrary is true, which is recently proved too.
The journal “Brain” which is published, clearly depicts how gray matter is produced in the right side of the brain to compensate speech loss during stroke. New treatment techniques are prevailing under Study coauthor Dr. Peter Turkeltaub, assistant professor of neurology at GUMC, and colleagues.
In US,185000 are first-time strokers out of 795,000. The amount of the brain tissue effected and the region where it is effected is what matters !! As an example, a person may turn out to be left paralytic if right portion of the brain is effected and vice versa.
Victims who suffer from left side stroke, experience speech loss which is technically termed as aphasia and it happens with 70% of the people. It may happen that they recover gradually and on other side of the coin, may experience it for life time too.
Indemnity in right division enhances Speech:-
32 people with aphasia in left portion and 30 normal people are examined with different tests. The results stated that the normal people had large gray matter in the right hemisphere than the speech survivors. We can draw, from the above that, for speech enhancement, right half compensates for loss of gray matter in left portion and vice versa. The results prove that right half compensation upgrades recovery which conflicts with some researchers.
Further experiments which pilot the path for modern treatments are under investigation.
