The United States has been identified to have the worst pre-term birth rates among the high-resources country. Even after having all the necessities and high resources, such discoveries are quite disappointing. The estimated data shows that around 15 million babies are born preterm in the US and one million of them die. And those lucky babies who survive are often facing severe health problems which include several breathing problems, jaundice, vision loss, cerebral palsy and intellectual delays.
In their annual report card, the US was granted a ‘C’. They have 9.6 percent preterm births. So now they are set to find some ways to Lower the alarming rate. A new goal gas been announced to reduce the preterm birth rate from 9.6 to 8.1 by year 2020.The best preterm birth rate among the top 100 cities of the world is of Portland, Oregon with 7.2 percent rate. In US around one million babies are dying because of early birth or because of complications arising from such births. Shreveport was assigned an F grade because it has the worst rate among top 100, that is 18.8 percent. Premature birth is a major concern because it is the major killer of infants.
“Reaching our goal ahead of schedule is progress, but it is not victory — our work is far from done, As our new list of city preterm birth rates highlights, many areas of the country, and tens of thousands of families, are not sharing in this success. No baby should have to battle the health consequences of an early birth. All babies, everywhere deserve a healthy start in life.” explained Dr. Jennifer L. Howse
