The new study funded by national institute of health reveals that the weight loss surgeries are proving good for the patients. As there is significant improvement in mobility and joint pains too. Around 57 percent of the patients showed better mobility after the weight loss surgery they went through, scientists observed that there was no any mobility issue in those patients at all.
The another benefit was observed in those who suffered knee and hip pain or disability due to them, around 70 percent of those patients had improvement in such pains and disability. The patients were analysed for three long years.
The result was presented at the Obesity week 2015, an international event which focus on the basic science and clinical application of obesity. “Our study found that clinically meaningful improvements in bodily pain, specific joint pain, and both perceived and objectively measured physical function are common following bariatric surgery. In particular, walking is easier, which impacts patients’ ability to adopt a more physically active lifestyle”Explained Wendy king, Associate Professor at University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. Around 2,221 patients were analysed during the study, among which 79 percent were female and 21 percent were male participants.
The researchers believe that obesity can significantly affect the knees and hips and thereby leads to oooan because of the overall stress which is put on the joints, and surgeries help to reverse such hazardous affect. So weight loss surgeries are beneficial for those kind of pains too
