A new way discovered that ALS kills nerve cells

Scientists have recently discovered a new method for the devastation and incurable neurological conditions that kills the nerve cells. The researchers reported their findings in one of the most prominent journal Neuron.

They believe that the finding will eventually lead towards the formation of a big step to find an effective treatment for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and dementia, more specifically frontotemporal dementia, it’s a not so prevalent variety of dementia which only leaves it’s bad impact on the frontal lobes of the brain. Both the diseases are very dreadful and they influence the patients in a very bad way.

ALS affects an individual by making them weaker day by day, it works in a very gradual manner that the person slowly lose their ability to speak or talk, swallow or even breathe. It destroys the motor neurons and several brain cells too. Stephen Hawking also lived with the deadly disease for over 50 years, which was a very rare case. The researchers have now developed a new method, they linked ALS to certain mutations which code for RNA binding protein, and this will eventually control various aspects for the regulation of genes. The new process is likely to be a great help for all the patients.

“This kills the nerve by throttling it and preventing it from making new protein in the parts of the cell that desperately need it. The mutations force the gelling process to go further than it should have gone.” Says the researchers.
