Blastoma and it’s various types

Blastoma is mainly known as a type of cancer which usually develops in children, it’s a general term used for the tumor in a group of cancers which has it’s affects virtually only on children. But people of all age groups are likely to be affected with this disease . Various type of Blastoma are produced in different locations of human body; so depending on the location, it’s assigned different names. For example, retinoblastoma for a blastoma of the eye. The main causes of blastomas are not well understood and it has not been identified yet but they are thought to be the result of some developmental genetic error, external environmental factors are most probably not responsible for this.

Blastoma and it’s various types

There are many kinds of Blastoma; most prevalent Blastoma of these cancers are hepatoblastoma, medulloblastoma, nephroblastoma and neuroblastoma. Hepatoblastoma is the liver cancer, it almost always affects young adults and children. Medulloblastoma is the most common tumor of the central nervous system in children. Nephroblastoma is known as the kidney cancer, also known as Wilms’ tumor. Neuroblastoma is a tumor of immature nerve cells outside of the brain, which often originates in the adrenal glands. These four together make up around a quarter of all malignant tumors in children under the age of 15 years.

Diagnosis of blastoma utilizes an approach which is very similar to that for other types of cancer. Therefore, the treatments process which is being used to fight the disease follow the lines of therapy explored for other cancers, it including numerous surgery, radiation therapy and then followed by range of chemotherapy. Blastomas, like most childhood cancers, are not preventable which is the main problem and a matter of concern. But treatment for most cases is successful and survival rates are high, so the expectations are always high.
