The recent study which was published in the journalmBio reveals that Researchers have given a new hope to get rid of seasonal flu, they have discovered the new strategies to develop more effective vaccines for seasonal flu. It can be achieved by adding a string of synthetic fat molecules which will boost immune system of human for response to strains of the influenza virus. Adding the string surprisingly enhances the effectiveness of vaccine. The analyzed data reveals that flu infections are responsible for around 3-5 million cases of severe illness and 250,000-500,000 deaths every year. There is always greater risks for complications arising from flu in young infants, adult aged 65 and older and pregnant women.
Brendon Chua, a research fellow at the University of Melbourne in Australia and co-author of The study says “The holy grail would be to develop a vaccine that cross-protects against different strains, which would be beneficial for the whole community, even if the prediction of circulating strains is wrong”. They believe that more effective, cross-protective flu vaccine could be developed by using an adjuvant which will activate a few range and variety of antibodies-independent immune responses. Its recommended that every individual aged 6 months and older should receive an annual flu vaccine.
The best approach to fight against seasonal flu is seasonal vaccination. Which are prepared every year after analysing about the virus which might circulate. But the analyzed data is usually not accurate. CDC revealed that the 2014-15 flu vaccine was only 23% effective across all age groups. More than 350 million doses of the 2015-16 flu vaccine have been distributed in the US.
Chua says “such a vaccine would also be beneficial in the event that a strain of flu virus from another species evolves to infect humans. Harnessing both types of immunity would provide protection in that period during an outbreak when no [new] vaccine is available.
