Physical activities can improve cognitive function

Physical activities and exercises are always the most favourite suggestion given by the physicians to have a healthy body and for a healthy heart too. Now one research has revealed that such activities can also improve cognitive function and brain plasticity. Certain evidences has shown that they have wondrous benefits. But it is still unclear that how much exercise is required and how long such activities can benefit any individual.

The University of Adelaide in Australia conducted the study and gave suggestion to do at least one cycle of 30-minute session. The exercise must be vigorous which will lead to changes in the brain. Such changes help to make the brain more “plastic”. This will also improve their ability to memorize things and there will be improvement in motor skill coordination too.

The study was conducted on the group of people in their 20s and 30s and then they were asked to ride the exercise bikes for the duration of 30 minutes. And then they were analysed by the team of neuroscientists. They were notable changes directly after those exercises. Thus the research proved that even 30 minutes of exercise can be beneficial for cognitive functions.

Lead researcher and Associate Professor, Michael Ridding explained that “Although this was a small sample group, it helps us to better understand the overall picture of how exercise influences the brain, We know that plasticity is also important for recovery from brain damage, so this opens up potential therapeutic avenues for patients. Further research will be required to see what the possible long-term benefits could be for patients as well as healthy people.”
