‘Car-Free Day’ in Delhi: CM Kejriwal leads cycle-rally

Led by CM Arvind Kejriwal, hundreds of people, that includes women, were on Thursday in a cycle-rally here between Bhagwan Das Marg and Red Fort to mark Delhi’s first ‘Car-Free Day’, which is aimed at encouraging people to use public transport.

Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, other cabinet ministers and bureaucrats also participated in the rally.

CM rode bicycle from Red Fort to Bhagwan Das Marg and requested to people to make bicycle-riding a habit.

“People should leave their vehicles and use public transport. Since pollution is increasing in Delhi, there is a need to run cycle which is also good for health,” he said.

The chief minister said riding bicycle benefits his health as he is a diabetic.

CM appealed to people of Delhi to make capital roads safer and said his government is working on a project to redesign them.

A concept of State Transport Minister Gopal Rai, Car-Free Day, is being organised today between Red Fort and Bhagwan Das Marg and it will continue till 12 noon.

Mr Rai added that the government will organise such events on the 22nd day of every month.
