On Friday, AAP filed a police complaint against V K Singh, Union minister over his controversial “dog” remark on the Dalit killing in Haryana and also demanded that an FIR be registered against him under the SC/ST Act.
AAP legislators Vishesh Ravi, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Hajarilal Chauhan, Rakhi Birla and spokesperson Ashutosh met police officials at Central Delhi’s Prasad Nagar police station in this regard.
“The police told us that they will first inquire into the complaint,” Bhardwaj said.
Spokesperson Ashutosh alleged that union minster remarks amounted to a violation of the SC/ST Act and said that the police has given assurance to us of conducting an inquiry into the matter that has snowballed into a major political row.
“The police told us that they need to take permission from the higher-ups as filing any case under the SC/ST Act requires approval from a DCP-rank officer,” Ashutosh said, adding that Singh’s status as a minister should not “affect it”.
Ashutosh also rubbished the VK Singh clarification as an after-thought in view of the Bihar elections. He had insisted a controversy has been created out of “unconnected sentences”.
“BJP and RSS are inherently anti-Dalit and anti-minorities and that’s why such statements are being issued,” Ashutosh said.
A former army chief and Minister of State for External Affairs, General VK Singh, had said yesterday: “If someone throws stones at a dog, the government is not responsible.”
His remark seen as extraordinarily insensitive, as VK Singh was responding to questions on the killing of a two-year-old boy and his 11-month-old sister, who were killed after their home was set on fire.
The minister later tweeted: “My statement wasn’t intended 2draw an analogy. My men & I put our lives on the line 4the nation irrespective of caste, creed & religion.” The attempt at damage control has failed to check the tide of condemnation.
