For every car makers importing the cars, particularly in India is certainly a n expensive business, therefore every car maker certainly wants to have a local production for their vehicles, so that not only they can have less production charges but for them having a local production unit is surely a key to price cars considering the high import charges in India.
Aiming the same recently, the country’s leading premium car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz too announced that they would be having a local production which would be part of their expansion plan in India.
Along with this the company is also planning to launch about 15 cars this year and out of these 15, 13 cars have already been introduces in the Indian market.
While with this the company is also focusing to shift their concentration to have a local production unit o that the company would be achieving their target of increasing the cars production in India.
However going by the sales figures, currently out of the total Mercedes-Benz Indian car sales, about 80 percent is from local production, as about 60 percent the car components have been sourced locally.
Roland Folger said, ““We want to keep our place the No.1 position,”We are in discussions with the government but there is nothing fixed yet. The question is how we will extend our local facilities, that depends on tax advantages, reinvestment. We have the capacity (in India), but there needs to be a country with a free trade agreement or some sort of agreement that would make exports financially viable.
