Now, Turkey Govt blocks Reddit under Internet Censorship Law

The Turkey government has once again ordered to block the working to popular website in the country. Though, this is not the first time when Turkey Government has passed out any such rule.

Earlier this year, the Trukey government has banned YouTube in the country for some period of time. It also ordered to block the Internet access of URL shortening service bitly in the country.

When users try to go to bitly website, they get redirected to a page starting in Turkish “this internet site (bit.ly) is placed under administrative measures by the Telecommunication Authority.”

However, such ban can be overruled by changing the DNS settings. It can be done by using a foreign DNS services like the Google Public DNS. YouTube and bitly is still banned in Turkey and there is no information on when this ban would be removed.

In addition to this, the Turkey government has now announced to block ‘Reddit’ in the country without revealing any clear reason of blocking the website.

Meanwhile, report has said that reddit was banned in Turkey as it hosts heated discussion forums and it has many threads which have NFSW content.

Another social networking website, Twitter was also blocked in Turkey for some period of time. Turkey ruled out ‘The Internet Law 5651’ in 2007.
