Swedish school attack: Police shoot masked man

In southern Sweden on Thursday, a masked man attacked a school, that wounded at least 4 students before being shot by police.

On Thursday, students fled from the Kronan school in Trollhattan, Sweden’s second-largest city, near Goteborg. Police in Trollhattan in a statement said the attack took place in the school’s cafe area and left four students wounded.

They had no immediate report on the conditions of the wounded or attacker.

According to Swedish TT news agency one person had died, however did not say who it was.

Tidning daily, The local Goteborg said six people one adult, four students and the perpetrator were injured in the attack. Immediately it was not possible to rectify the differing accounts.

Paper’s web site live feed showed people standing outside a red-brick building with ambulances and police cars parked outside.

It has 400 students, which ranges from pre-school to high school.

“When we first saw him we thought it was a joke. He had a mask and black clothes and a long sword. There were students who wanted to go with him and hold the sword,” a student told Swedish media.

Witnesses said the attacker was wearing a Star Wars mask. Some took it to be a Halloween prank.

A statement from the hospital said: “We have four seriously injured patients. All are in surgery right now. One is a teacher and two are students. One is 11 and one 15 years old. They have knife wounds. One of the injured is the suspected culprit. He is being operated on for gunshot wounds. A teacher died at the scene.”
