A study conducted by researchers of Princeton University in New Jersey have observed that there has been a very tremendous increase in number of deaths of middle-aged people of the United States. This is partially due to Excessive usage of drug and alcohol abuse, the number of people who are consuming drugs and alcohol has been increasing every day. The various other reason for such deaths include suicide, chronic liver disease and cirrhosis.
There are a steady decline in birth rate in the US for decades, but the new study has shown a totally distinct results. There is a very notable increase in death of white Americans aged bet we 45 to 54. The researchers reviewed the data and reached their findings. The impact of drug and alcohol is already causing several troubles and it is becoming more and more fatal, which is actually an alarming situation.
Between 1979-1998, the team identified an average 2% annual fall in mortality rates for white Americans aged 45-54 - similar to the fall in mortality rates seen in other high-income countries including Canada, Australia, Sweden, France, Germany and the UK over the same period.
Earlier there was a steady fall in mortality rate, but now there is only rise in case of White American men. There is no such hike in other developed and developing countries, and those who had, have managed it well so far. AIDS epidemic has also been a responsible for such decline.
The researchers have observed that there was significant increase in number of obese people too, so obesity and diseases related to that can also be responsible, they say “A serious concern is that those currently in midlife will age into Medicare in worse health than the currently elderly. This is not automatic; if the epidemic is brought under control, its survivors may have a healthy old age. However, addictions are hard to treat and pain is hard to control, so those currently in midlife may be a ‘lost generation’ whose future is less bright than those who preceded them.”
