A migrant camp in Slovenia has caught fire on Wednesday ; none if the migrants taking shelter in the gateway to Austria and beyond were injured in the mishap.
The causes of the fire are yet to be known, however, the migrants were apparently lighting fires outside the tents to beat the chill. Primarily, this fire is expected to have spread to the camp, though not cited officially. Thousands of migrants who were looking out for a shelter while constantly trekking, were left in fear and chaos with the fire burning up their tents.
A summit is meanwhile being held in Brussels by the EuropeanUnion’s executive in order to better the handling of extensive migrant flow from one country to another. Since the sudden placement of borders equipped with razor wire in Hungary by the police and soldiers at the country’s southern borders, countries like Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia have been facing a crisis of accommodating huge number of migrants through the Balkans which has been going beyond the reach of the countries’ administration. Working in this direction, the Slovenian army was granted more powers towards handling of migrants inflow.
Hundreds of migrants who spent the night in freezing cold were forced anti Croatia from Serbia walked through a border passage that was muddy and filled with cornfields, all these added to the already hostile weather. They were initially blocked by Croatian police who later on left the area letting them to proceed.
According to Francesea Bonelli, an official of U.N refugee agency, close to 3000 migrants stopped overnight, all of them including children, elderly and few of them not in a position to walk because of certain ailments.
